What You’ll Need?

What You'll Need?
  • 2 russet potatoes, sliced into 1/4-inch sticks (peeled or unpeeled, your choice!)
  • Extra-virgin olive oil, for drizzling (or substitute with avocado oil)
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • Optional seasonings: Fresh herbs, chili powder, or chipotle powder
  • Optional dips: Ketchup, mustard, mayo, or chipotle sauce

How to Make Air Fryer French Fries?

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (this ensures even cooking).
  2. In a bowl, drizzle the potato sticks with olive oil, sprinkle with sea salt, and toss to coat evenly.
  3. Arrange the potatoes in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they are not touching (work in batches if needed).
  4. Air fry for 12 to 15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy. (If they’re not crispy enough, add 1-2 more minutes.)
  5. Once all batches are done, toss them back into the air fryer (no need for a single layer) for 1 to 2 minutes to re-crisp and warm them up.
  6. Serve immediately with your favorite seasonings and dips. Enjoy!

Perfect Pairings: Sauce and Topping Ideas

Elevate your air fryer French fries with creative dips and seasonings! Try a sprinkle of chili powder or chipotle powder for a smoky kick, or toss them with fresh herbs like parsley or rosemary for a burst of flavor. For dipping, classic ketchup and mustard are always winners, but why not mix it up with a tangy chipotle mayo or a creamy garlic aioli?

Time-Saving Tips for Busy Cooks

Short on time? Prep your potato sticks ahead of time and store them in a bowl of cold water in the fridge for up to 24 hours. This not only saves time but also helps remove excess starch for crispier fries. When ready to cook, just pat them dry and proceed with the recipe. Pro tip: Use a mandoline slicer for quick, uniform potato sticks!

Storage and Reheating Made Easy

Leftover fries? No problem! Store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, pop them back in the air fryer at 380°F for 3-5 minutes to restore their crispiness. Avoid the microwave—it can make them soggy. For longer storage, freeze the fries in a single layer on a baking sheet, then transfer to a freezer bag for up to 2 months.

Recipe Variations to Spice Things Up

Switch up your fries with different potato varieties like sweet potatoes or Yukon Golds for a unique twist. You can also experiment with seasonings like garlic powder, paprika, or even a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese for a savory finish. For a healthier option, try using avocado oil instead of olive oil.

Equipment Guidance for Best Results

While any air fryer will work, using a model with a large basket can reduce the number of batches needed. If your air fryer has a shaking function, take advantage of it to ensure even cooking. Don’t overcrowd the basket—leaving space between the fries is key to achieving that perfect crispiness. Happy air frying!
